Weekly Response Four

The topic of conversation that interested me most in class this week was in relation to the newstory about the fourteen – year – old male child of Muslim descent and his invention. As a pre – service teacher, I have learned to see beyond the color of a person’s skin; I feel this is what needs to be done with the controversy surrounding this newstory. For me, there are many questions I have in regards to the situation. What is the teacher’s side of the story? What can actual accounts of the police officers involved add to the story? Why are there different pictures of the invention that the student brought into the classroom? Does the school have a zero – tolerance policy that educators are required to follow? Would this be such a big news story if the same teacher had this encounter with a Caucasian student? In class, we were shown the story from the viewpoint of the student, but I want to know more!
